Home Afrika listed in mid-2013 to become Kenya's first publicly traded property developer, raising funds for development projects and ambitions to established 2 sub-Saharan REITs: one a straight-forward “investment” REIT (within approx 5yrs); the other a “development” REIT to work on about 5 projects in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia & Rwanda (and expected to be launched as soon as possible). Home Afrika was established in 2008 as an investment club with plans to develop 1m homes in a decade across the region in conjunction with Shelter Afrique (a pan-African inter-governmental housing agency), and a portfolio worth approx Sh10bn / USD$110m and including: the Migaa, a live-in-golf community in Kiambu County; Lakeview Heights (Kisumu County); Llangwe (Kwale County); and Kikwetu (Machakos County).

Africa REIT was sponsored by Hardy Projects Ltd / HPL (est 2002), and so has access to its development pipeline of up-market residential houses & mixed-use commercial office blocks in Nairobi & Mombasa, that include Hardy House, Wood Avenue Apartments, Dennis Pritt Apartments, Tigoni Serene Home, Karen Office Campus, and the Kisugu housing project.
